We are going through a time where all of us are facing a lot of competition in the world. We think that we are the one facing more competition and going through more problem. But remember my friend, there are a lot of people who are facing the same problem like you but instead of complaining, they are working to overcome it. In this article I’ll present to you the story of a girl who is fighting with her own and working in order to help her near and dear ones. So let me narrate the story (which is true, but it happened with one of my friend Navneet Mishra who is a Quoran) :
Five Years Back:
I saw a girl working in KFC, Cannought Place(Delhi) during one of my many office visits.
Girl looked pretty tired, her eyes revealed how she was short of sleep(I make it a point to talk to strangers, particularly people like these because they always have interesting stories).
Me : Hey, don’t you feel you need to sleep???
She : Yeah, my shift ends in an hour. I will sleep straight after that(she said with an infectious smile almost as if she wasn’t tired at all).
Three months later, I went back and she was pretty much the same(tired eyes and even tired body language).
This time she replied that she couldn’t sleep yesterday as she had some household chores.
That night I felt pity for her and understood how she is overworking, but the story didn’t end there.
I saw her walking out of a hospital that very night.
I thought of giving her free lift, considering it was dark and also because it was Delhi.
Me : Hey, if you dont mind, can I drop you? You look groggy.
She hesitated for a bit but reluctantly agreed. When I saw her report which she was hiding, my heart stopped for a moment. She was suffering from stage three cancer and had zero chances of survival.
She : I only have probably four to five months left(Even though she was sad, she was not crying, had a content look on her face and was not looking for sympathy).
I was still in disbelief for next ten minutes and asked why she was working instead of taking rest. She said, “I have one sister to take care of. She is in tenth standard and would require money to pay for her tuition fees”.
I believe this is what exactly is maturity, Attending to your responsibility.
This is the end of story. You must be feeling so much guilty on how we make silly excuses just to avoid working. We take a leave even if we get slightest fever or headache but this girl kept working even after Stage Three cancer. That’s dedication and responsibility.
